Root coverage graft
Many adults suffer from receding gums. Several factors, such as improper brushing technique or periodontal inflammation, can lead to this condition. Receding gums must be addressed promptly to prevent more serious problems. Root coverage grafts are an effective treatment to stabilize receding gums.
Connective tissue grafts cover the exposed root surface. This procedure curbs the progression of the receding gums. A thin layer of tissue is taken from the roof of the mouth (the palate) and is subsequently placed over the root of the tooth. The collected tissue is called the conjunctive layer and allows for uniform healing.
A root coverage graft can help prevent cavities, sensitivity to heat and cold, and bone loss. For more information on connective tissue grafts, ask any member of the Centre Dentaire des Îles team.
